BJP, Cong spar over two-year-old Rudrapur incident

Published on:

The Congress-led State Government’s decision to allow the CB-CID to register a case against BJP’s MlA Raj Kumar Thukral from Rudrapur Assembly constituency in a two year old case of Rudrapur, seems to have added fuel to the fire in an already charged political environment of this terai belt of Uttarakhand that continues to give rise to rivalry among rivals of different political parties particularly the BJP and the Congress after the last Assembly polls held nearly two years back.

The matter of fact is that the State BJP has seriously taken the Congress led State Government’s decision to open the two year old Rudrapur incident in which four persons were killed and many others were injured when two groups clashed.

Among others former Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Bhagat Singh Koshyari has already called on the Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on the aforesaid issue, urging him to withdraw the case.

“I have personally met with the Chief Minister on this issue to reconsider the Government decision as it may give wrong signal to the society and disturb communal harmony and peace in the society,” said Koshyari during his kumaon visit here on Wednesday.

The then State Government had worked out this case in due course of time, maintaining communal harmony. Now raking up the old issue has not gone down well. “I have urged the State Government to withdraw the case lodged against MlA Thukral in this regared,” he added. “If the State Government doesn’t listen to our demand, the BJP will take all the necessary steps in the times to come,” the senior BJP leader said.

He went ahead saying it is quite concerning to know that instead of concentrating on how to rehabilitate many a number of disaster affected families who are still living in tents in different parts of the state, the Congress-led State Government is raking up an old issue and giving order to register case against our MlA from Rudrapur under section 302.

That only shows how the CB-CID is being misused by the Congress led State Government as the Central Government has been misusing the CBI against its political rivals, Koshyari alleged, adding therefore, the BJP takes this decision of this Congress led State Government seriously. It seems the Congress led State Government has given a big political issue  to the Opposition BJP now by raking up the old Rudrapur incident.

The interesting fact is that as the BJP has hinted, in case the State Government fails to resolve this old issue as early as possible, this aforesaid issue could become a big political issue in the upcoming general elections.

Responsibility of the ruling Congress Party that baldy suffered in the last assembly polls in this terai segment of the hill state Udham Singh Nagar, has only become bigger to improve its electoral performance in the upcoming general elections in this region after Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna’s election to the State legislative Assembly from the Sitarganj Assembly seat.
