With Haldwani Mayor seat becoming an issue of prestige between the ruling Congress party and the BJP, the rival political parties are now eyeing their traditional vote banks.
Although the voters here are still playing their cards close to their chest, yet the poll managers of the rival political parties are trying hard to bring the rather unpredictable voters to their respective party fold.
Meetings of the Congress leaders led by Haldwani MlA and State Finance Minister Indira Haridayesh, with people from the Vaishya Samaj, Aggarwal Samaj and trader associations only give that impression.
Urging the representatives of the aforesaid sections of the society, Haridayesh has stated that since the Congress party is presently ruling in the State and it has still about four years to complete its tenure in the State, therefore victory of the Congress candidate as the Mayor of the municipal corporation of Haldwani (MCH) would definitely lead to
better coordination between the State Government and the local civic administration for development of the Haldwani city.
That is why we appeal to the people of Haldwani to extend their support to Congress candidate Hemant Bagarwal for the post of Haldwani city Mayor, Haridayesh maintained.
The interesting fact is that winning the Haldwani Mayor seat is important for both the Congress party and the local Haldwani MlA. For Congress it is important because it has ruled the local civic administration for most of the times.
Similarly, it is important for Haridayesh to ensure victory of the Congress candidate because Bagarwal was handpicked by the State Finance Minister and Haldwani MlA when her son Sumit Haridayesh could not get the ticket for the same Haldwani city Mayor post.
Meanwhile, in a rather changing political environment the BJP was quite hopeful to corner the Haldwani city Mayor seat. The MBPG College student union, Haldwani, has already decided to extend its support to the BJP’s Mayor candidate Joginder Rautela in the municipal corporation of Haldwani ( MCH) elections to be held on April 28.
And the BJP poll strategists can also be seen in wooing different sections of the society to strengthen their wining prospects.
Besides, upgradation of the Haldwani municipal council as the municipal corporation in the BJP regime a few years ago, is one of the major factors that has brightened the wining prospects of the BJP.
More so, good governance, keeping city environment clean and green will be our top priority, said BJP candidate Rautela.
Issues of the Haldwani city are more challenging at present in view of the city’s increasing population. Therefore, we have to set our priorities accordingly to maintain city’s civic health, he added.
