The State BJP has accused the Congress-led State Government of pursuing political vendetta against the principal Opposition party of the State, citing the arrest of 45 BJP activists, including party MlA, from lohaghat (Champawat) in connection with an old case.
Notably, 45 BJP activists, including party MlA from lohaghat in Champawat, Puran Singh Fartyal, were arrested in Champawat on Monday on the charge of blocking the highway in Champawat on August 1, 2014 following a local court’s order. All of them were sent to Almora jail.
The arresting spree has exposed how the ruling party is trashing the democratic norms, alleges State BJP general secretary, Prakash Pant on Tuesday, adding that staging protest democratically is well within the framework of democratic functioning.
“There is a provision under section 321 to withdraw cases related to political agitations or protests launched in public interests. We expected the State Government to withdraw the cases registered on August 1, 2014 against the BJP workers, including party MlA from lohaghat.
“But sending all of them to jails, they have shown the scant regard they have for democracy. This as juxtaposed with the State Government withdrawing several cases related to murder and extortion over the past one and half year has exposed their sinister face,” the state BJP leader said.
