BJP committee to begin probe into MLAs’ spat

The Bharatiya Janata Party committee formed to probe into the dispute between two of its MLAs from Haridwar district will start its investigation from Wednesday.

The probe could not begin earlier as the coordinator of this three-member committee, BJP state general secretary and MLA Khajan Das was sent to Himachal Pradesh to participate in the party’s campaign for the Lok Sabha elections. Talking to The Pioneer, he said that he was reaching Dehradun on Monday night. He said that the party’s committee will start the probe into the matter from Wednesday.

The committee will consider the reports published in the media and also question the two MLAs in question among other office bearers of the party from Haridwar.

It will be recalled that in the near past, Khanpur MLA Pranav Singh ‘Champion’ and Jhabreda MLA Deshraj Karnwal had been levelling allegations at each other for some time. While Champion had alleged that Karnwal had used a false caste certificate, Karnwal had questioned Champion’s qualifications. The BJP State unit had also issued notices to the two MLAs seeking their explanation for what was deemed as indiscipline. However, soon after that their dispute had been resolved on April 18 after the intervention of the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat.

The situation appeared to have returned to normal until the last week of April when the Jhabreda MLA filed a petition in the high court in a case connected to the controversy regarding his documents.

Even as this fuelled another round of statements by the MLAs in question in the media, the BJP State president Ajay Bhatt formed a three-member committee with Khajan Das as its coordinator to probe the whole matter.

The committee also comprises State minister rank position holder Vishwas Dawar and BJP state minister Kuldeep Kumar as members.
