A day after the report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) revealed anomalies amounting to Rs 877 crore in execution of various works by the State Government, the Bharatiya Janata Party State president Ajay Bhatt said that this has substantiated the allegations of corruption leveled by the BJP at the previous State Government led by the Congress.
The BJP State president said that during the tenure of the Congress-led State Government, the liquor mafia, mining mafia and other such elements were given undue benefits due to which the revenues of the State suffered a severe dent. When the Congress Government left office, it left empty coffers and a system in disarray for the BJP Government.
Bhatt, further, averred that the previous State Government headed by the Congress totally failed in the task of cleaning the Ganga as was ascertained in the CAG report.
According to the report, about 58 per cent of the budget had not even been spent on the approved works. Further, the Government had not taken the various steps it was supposed to take to tap sewers draining into the Ganga due to which the waste continued to drain into the Ganga river. From Uttarkashi to Haridwar, out of the 122 sewers, the untreated waste from 65 sewers continued to end up directly in the Ganga.
Bhatt also alleged that the proximity of the Congress-led Government to the liquor manufacturers resulted in major anomalies. He went on to opine that the Congress and corruption are related to each other, which has also been proved by the findings stated in the CAG report. Bhatt stated, “During the Vidhan Sabha elections, the BJP had prominently raised the corrupt and anti-public works of the Congress.
This is why, the public the public placed its trust in the BJP and voted it to office. The BJP Government in the State is now working on resolving the problems of disarray and empty coffers left by the Congress-led Government,” said the BJP state president. He also expressed hope that the State Government will now take necessary action based on the findings in the CAG report.
