BJP banking only on sympathy: Pritam

The Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) chief, Pritam Singh, has claimed that the Congress party candidate Anju Lunthi would emerge victorious in the Pithoragarh Assembly by-elections. Speaking to the media persons at State headquarters of the Congress party on Wednesday he said that the BJP which has fielded Chandra Pant, the wife of former Finance Minister Prakash Pant is banking only on the sympathy factor to win the election.

The PCC chief, however, said that the people of Pithoragarh are mature enough to understand the design of BJP. He said that all the development works initiated by the former MLA Mayukh Mahar have been stalled during the present BJP regime. “In last three years, Pithoragarh has witnessed no development.

The people of Pithoragarh are very aware and have always shown eagerness for development. I am sure that people will vote for the Congress candidate there,’’ he said.

Meanwhile Anju Lunthi, the official candidate of Congress party filed her nomination of Wednesday. She arrived in the collectorate premises with a huge procession.

The former MLA and local heavyweight Mayukh Mahar, former chairman of the Pithoragarh Nagar Palika, Jagat Singh Khati and district president Trilok Mahar accompanied Lunthi during the filing of nomination papers.

The political analysts opine that the Congress party has made the Pithoragarh by election interesting by fielding Anju Lunthi.

They are of the view that by fielding Lunthi, Congress party has nullified the women card the BJP played by announcing the candidature of Chandra Pant. However the Congress candidate would still have to ward off the sympathy factor which being the widow of former finance Minister Prakash Pant, Chandra Pant would generate.

After the end of filing of nomination papers on Wednesday, the scrutiny of the papers would be done on Thursday.

The last date of withdrawal of the nomination is November 11. The counting of votes would be done on November 28 and the result would be declared on the same day.
