Infuriated over the callous approach of the State Government for introducing the timely rescue and relief work in the disaster affected areas of the State, thousands of BJP activists protested near Vidhan Sabha in Dehradun on Thursday.
Hundreds of BJP activists gathered at Race Course based public school and took out rally to register their protest at Vidhan Sabha. But, the agitators were stopped ahead of Rispana Bridge by the city police.
The agitators also shouted anti state government slogans and demanded immediate suspension of the state government on moral grounds as the state government has failed to redress the grievances of the displaced villagers who faced the brunt of the natural calamity.
Addressing the gathering, BJP State Chief Tirath Singh Rawat expressed his concern over that issue that the state government has completely failed to take effective steps to carry relief works in the disaster affected districts of the state. During the protest, Rawat and other activists were injured as they tried to climb barricades.
Highly annoyed over the callous approach of the state government for its lackadaisical approach for not effectively doing the relief operations in the disaster affected areas of the state, former chief ministers Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, BS Koshyari and Maj Gen BC Khanduri along with the other activists courted arrest. The BJP agitators also lamented that the corruption is on the peak and the law and order situation has been deteriorating with each passing day in the state.
The activists also lamented that that hundreds of displaced villagers are on the verge of death in the absence of proper relief materials and villagers are forced to traverse several kilometers to quench their thirst or to fetch the food grains from the district headquarter. Hundreds of activists from different cells of party were also present.
