The vice-president of Uttarakhand unit of the Congress, Surya Kant Dhasmana, has said that case against Mussoorie MLA Ganesh Joshi should be registered for violation of model code of conduct enforced in the state in view of Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections as the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP) has accepted that Joshi was distributing money to the women.
Addressing media persons at state party office on Friday, the Pradesh Congress Committee vice president said that the BJP has given a plea that Joshi was following a tradition while distributing money to women on the occasion of Chhath.
“With due respects to my brethren from Puranchal, I want to state that Chhath is not a festival of people of Uttarakhand origin. Neither I nor Ganesh Joshi belong to the community that celebrates Chhath,’’ he said. The Congress leader said that the party has submitted a complaint to the state election commission and demanded registration of case against Joshi. He said that the congress had earlier complained about Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat’s statement on Haridwar- Dehradun gas pipeline as it amounted to violation of model code of conduct.
Dhasmana said that the state election commission should not act like a tooth- less tiger and it should act on the cases of violation of code of conduct. He added that these cases violation are actually a question mark on the authority of state election commission.
Dhasmana claimed that the congress party took up issues related with public interest while campaigning for the elections of ULB.
“Our party brought out a vision document for these elections while the BJP could not even release its manifesto,’’ he said. Former minister Matbar Singh Kandari said that in the ULB elections all the leaders of Congress party including state chief Pritam Singh, former CM Harish Rawat, state in charge of party Anugrah Narayan Singh, co in charge Rajesh Dharmani, and former PCC chief Kishore Upadhyay campaigned extensively.
