With Medical Council of India (MCI) directing the medical colleges to install biometric attendance system, the authorities of nascent Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) have decided to put these machines at the college and associated hospital. In a recent order, the MCI which is the apex body of medical education in the country has directed all medical colleges to submit the Aadhar number and biometric details of their staff. The Principal of the GDMC, Dr Pradip Bharati Gupta said that as per the MCI order biometric machines would be installed in the college and associated hospital by the end November.
The installation of these machines would ensure that the faculty members and other staff members of the college are punctual. A major change is expected to be witnessed at the associated hospital of GDMC where the doctors have made it a habit of coming late for OPDs and other works. like doctors the disease of coming late to work has spread to nurses, pharmacist, technicians and other members of staff.
The demand to install bio-metric attendance systems in the hospitals is an old one but the State Government fearing wrath of doctors has so far cold shouldered the proposal.
The doctors’ contention against the biometric attendance system is that they have to come to the hospital to attend emergencies even after stipulated duty hours. However the biometric attendance made compulsory by the MCI has meant that the erstwhile Doon hospital which is the biggest hospital of the state and now part of medical college would soon have this system. Meanwhile, wary of negative response of doctors the college administration is working on plan as to how relaxation to doctors catering emergency calls is provided.
