The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the machine by inserting an empty drinking water bottle into the vending machine. Speaking on the occasion, Rawat  said that large number of people visit secretariat for various administration related work daily and the number of employees in the secretariat is also quite big.

He said that apart from inducing change in behavior of people, the machine would give an impetus to sanitation. The CM said people often throw the plastic bottles after using them in open due to which waste is littered around and it results in choking of drains too.

Burning of plastic bottles causes air pollution and these machines would help in waste disposal and do their bit for cleaning the environment.  The machine has been installed by Swajal Project and Allahabad bank under Swachchh Bharat Mission (Rural).

The Director Swajal, Raghav langar said the machine crushes the plastic bottles and converts them into plastic flex. He said that when one inserts his bottle into the machine and puts down his mobile number on screen, a message of thanks is delivered to his phone. langar informed that the machine has digital machine operable with the help of pen drive and audio/ videos of schemes of social welfare undertaken by the state government would be displayed on the machine.
