A man was found killed suspectedly by a big cat in Kalagarh range of Corbett tiger reserve on Sunday. Though forest officials are yet to track the killer or ascertain its identity, it is being suspected that the tiger believed to be responsible for killing a woman in the same area earlier this year could be responsible for the latest human fatality.
A man employed as a labourer by the Irrigation Department was killed by a big cat on the way to the main dam at Kalagarh on Sunday. According to Corbett tiger reserve deputy director Saket Badola, marks on the man’s body indicate that he was killed by a big cat. However, the killer is yet to be tracked so it is not certain whether the man was killed by a tiger or a leopard, he added.
It will be recalled that a woman was killed in the Kalagarh dam colony on January 14 with the pug marks of a male tiger being found near the body. Though officials are yet to identify the animal responsible for killing the man on Sunday, they state that the tigress declared man-eater in neighbouring Uttar Pradesh who is suspected to have killed a man in Najibabad forest division in UP on February 7 in an area near the Haridwar forest division in Uttarakhand could not have made the kill in Kalagarh because the site of her last kill is far from here.
