Bhura escape case: 5 aides held

Published on:

In connection with escape of gangster Amit Bhura from police custody in Baghpat, Uttarakhand Police in conjunction with joint teams from Delhi and Uttar Pradesh have arrested so far five criminals who had allegedly facilitated Bhura to escape. However, Uttarakhand police are still clueless on Bhura’s whereabouts with eighteen days having passed since the sharp shooter gave the escorting cops a slip.

State additional director general of police (law and order) Ram Singh Meena said that the arrest of gangster Ravi Kumar from Delhi, who had sprinkled chilli on policemen in Baghpat, is an achievement of the teams who have been  tirelessly working to crack the case of escape.   During interrogation, Ravi had disclosed names of 16 criminals supposedly involved in the escape. Out of this 16, five - Samar Pal, Babi Tomar, Prince Kumar and Mohammad Gauri alias Mohammad Saddam and Ravi Kumar- are now cooling their heels behind bars.

Teams had recovered a cell set from Ravi, said to be used by him during the drama of escape. Teams are probing as to whether Bhura remained in touch with Ravi after he had escaped from custody. Teams are analysing call details of the recovered mobile phones. This would help them to hook Bhura and his still fugitive 11 aids, police claimed. Kumar’s interrogation further revealed that a gang named Bawana was involved in Bhura-escape.

The angle as to whether the members of this gang were in touch with gangster Sunil Rathi who is now languishing in Pauri jail is being investigated. The Delhi native gangster Ravi Kumar is said to have disclosed during the interrogation that his aide Monu Tyagi was also with him when police arrested him, but he managed to give police a slip. According to him, on the direction of Sachin Khokhar alias Monu and Navin Bhanja who were also involved in firing incidents outside Roorkee sub-jail campus recently, Ravi and Yogesh had sprinkled chilli in the eyes of armed policemen who were deputed to escort Bhura in Baghpat while other armed criminals had fired shots in the air to scare the cops away.

They had also looted police of two AK-47 rifles and one self-loading rifle (SlR) aside from securing the escape of Bhura.  At another remove, Meena said that taking note of the Bhura incident, all the policemen would undergo training on firing once a year in Army Firing Ranges in the State.
