BHEl Haridwar has once again earned an achievement with the first time indigenous manufacturing and successful testing of 800 MW lP Turbine Rotor of Supercritical rating for Yeramarus Power Project of Karnataka Power Corporation ltd.

Under the leadership of Executive Director HEEP Prakash Chand, Haridwar Unit of BHEl is currently going full throttle into manufacturing of large size steam turbines having supercritical steam parameters along with matching turbo generators and condensers. Country’s first 800 MW thermal set (Yeramarus) and also the first 700 MW thermal set (Bellary) is under execution by BHEl Haridwar along with the 660 MW sets.

During a brief programme at Turbine Manufacturing Block-3, Chand gave a ceremonial go ahead for dispatch of this first lP Rotor of 800 MW. He said that the team of experienced and highly skilled engineers and workmen from various group like Technology, Machining, Blade manufacturing, Engineering, Quality Control, Testing and Assembly deserve appreciation for this accomplishment.

The lP Turbine (low Pressure) rotors for the supercritical sets have many unique features and manufacturing involved many firsts to the credit of various agencies engaged in the successful completion of 800MW lP Rotor. During the course of its operation, these rotors undergo high level of stresses and tough operational duty. This requires accuracy levels of the highest order to be ensured during machining and assembly of these Rotors. The BHEl team developed many new technological processes and fixtures for machining, blade manufacturing, assembly, quality checks and test balancing of this bladed rotor.
