BHEl media spokesperson denies raid in BHEl office

Published on:

Three days after Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had conducted a raid in the houses of some former senior BHEl officials, tagged with charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and abuse of official position, the BHEl media spokesperson Rajendra Kumar confirmed on Monday that raid was indeed conducted in the houses of some former officials, but not in the  BHEl office itself. Notably, FIR was lodged against the officials on April  7 this year.

Among the officials named thus in the FIR are  R U Prasad, GM BHEl (HEEP) who retired in January 2017, V K Saxena, former senior DGM and Abhai Singh, former manager aside from  Virender Sharma, proprietor Bharat Radio and Electric Works.

It is alleged that in 2014-15 R U Prasad entered into a criminal conspiracy with V K Saxena, Abhai Singh and Virendra Sharma with the intention to cheat BHEl Haridwar in the matter of disposal of various types of commercial hazardous waste at BHEl. In furtherance to the criminal conspiracy, a proposal for disposal of various types of combustible hazardous garbage from dumping yard of BHEl to outside the factory was moved by Abhai Singh, then senior manager health safety and environment department, in February 2014. Approval for budgetary offer was also sought. Following  the techno- commercial bidding, a Kankhal- based company was awarded the disposal project with Bharat Machine Tools being kept out. No record of classification of the waste was, however, found.

The FIR report, signed by Sujeet Kumar, head of Branch CBI Dehradun under section 120-B and 420, states that the accused have abused their official positions as public servants and fraudulently connived with Virender of Bharat Radio and Electric Works in the matter of disposal of hazardous waste which was actually non-hazardous and earned money at the expense of  BHEl which was robbed of Rs 46 lakhs.
