The Bharat Heavy Electricals limited (BHEl) has achieved another milestone in Afghanistan by successfully commissioning two units of 14 MW each at Salma Hydro Electric Project (HEP) in Afghanistan. It will be recalled that the Salma Dam (renamed as Afghan-India Friendship Dam) was inaugurated recently by PM Narendra Modi in the presence of the Afghanistan president Ashraf Ghani.
In recognition of BHEl's contribution towards setting up of the project, Union Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj and the Union Minister of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Uma Bharti presented an appreciation shield to BHEl which was received by its chairman cum managing director Atul Sobti.
According to a statement issued by BHEl, this project has been funded under Government of India’s grant to Government of Afghanistan.
