The Heavy Electrical Equipment Plant at Haridwar, one of the major manufacturing units of the technology giant BHEl, has added many more feathers to its cap during the financial year 2014-15. In financial year 2014-15, BHEl Haridwar, having successfully assimilated the super-critical technology, has become the first company in India to indigenously manufacture supercritical thermal sets of up to 800 MW rating.

This includes the successful manufacturing of India’s first 800 MW Turbo Generator and first 800 MW supercritical HP Turbine module for Yeramarus power project in Karnataka and the first 700 MW Nuclear Turbo Generator for Kalpakkam Atomic power plant. It may be mentioned that the 660 MW Super Critical Thermal set manufactured at Heavy Electrical Equipment Plant (HEEP) Haridwar for the Barh power project in Bihar was successfully synchronized with the grid and achieved full load.

In spite of stiff global competition and prevailing difficulties in power sector, BHEl has maintained its goodwill in the market last year. HEEP had delivered satisfactory results with an annual turnover of Rs3,541 crore and a Profit before tax of Rs385 crore. On the physical performance front, 41 turbine modules totaling 5113 MW, 9 Turbo Generators of different ratings worth 5865 MW and six condensers were manufactured during the year. This is evident from the fact that HEEP now has orders worth Rs12,361 crores in hands for execution.

As part of its technology up-gradation programme, HEEP has achieved full capability to manufacture all types of modules of supercritical turbines of ratings 660 MW and above. Also, for transporting 660 MW Turbo generators through railways, a new rail wagon has been designed by HEEP jointly with RDSO lucknow and manufactured by BHEl Jhansi. Turbo Generator for Prayagraj Bara project has been dispatched using this wagon. The BHEl unit at Haridwar is also providing state of the art technology to its customers. During the year, a record Rs 89 crores were spent on Research & Development of new products and processes.

BHEl Haridwar is also dedicated to fulfilling its responsibility towards the society. HEEP has recently signed a MoU to establish 25 bio- digester toilet clusters and drinking water units along the banks of river Ganga in Haridwar and Rishikesh. The Pollution Control Research Institute (PCRI) at BHEl Haridwar has been nominated as an active partner for “National Mission for Clean Ganga” by the Ministry of Water Resources, River Development  and Ganga Rejuvenation. It shall be carrying out water quality monitoring studies of Ganga and its tributaries from Badrinath to Anupshahar.

The Executive Director of HEEP unit, Prakash Chand complementing the financial results of the unit during 2014-15, said things happened thanks to  the sincere efforts of all employees and support of all unions and associations. Commenting on the demanding business scenario, Chand said that current year and the coming years are challenging for BHEl. But we are confident that with the ongoing momentum — and skill, commitment and motivation, we will surely meet the expectations of our customers and the nation as a whole,” he added.
