Modernity may have overshadowed traditional way of life of common people to a large extent.

However, old rituals and traditions still assume special significance in life as these auspicious occasions not only provide an opportunity for celebrations, but also strengthen bond of affection among the masses.

According to the rituals, 'Bhai Dooj' that is celebrated on the third day of Diwali festival every year, only signifies the bondage of affection between brothers and sisters as the 'Raksha bandhan' does. This day sister wishes good for her brother.

The interesting fact is that as the religious beliefs here suggest, this 'Bhai Dooj' festival has its mythological importance, too, as the Diwali festival does have.

Interestingly, people may not be aware much about the religious importance of this 'Bhai Dooj' festival. But they can be seen visiting their relatives on this occasion even today.

People particularly women and children could be seen here on Tuesday thronging bus stations from early morning to visit their relatives.

Whereas some of the people had personal vehicle facility to travel, others had to rely on the public transport. However, as the day passed commuters had to experience a tough time here on Tuesday following increasing rush.

long distant travelers had to face a harrowing time on account of the additional rush.

Though the officials concerned of the roadways claimed to have made adequate arrangements of buses, mobilising the entire bus fleet, these arrangements turned out to be inadequate with increasing number of visitors on the occasion of 'Bhai Dooj' here today.

"I had to go to Ghaziabad. But I could not catch the buses for the past three hours as these buses were packed to capacity," said Surendra Rakesh, who had come home, Haldwani to meet his parents on this festive occasion.

Similar experiences were shared by Sarita Semwal who had to go to Almora to meet her parents on the occasion of 'Bhai Dooj'.

She maintained that though vehicles are going to Almora, due to increasing rush, it is difficult to board the packed to capacity vehicles.
