Beneficiaries not getting benefits of Govt schemes

The apathy and inefficiency of the Government machinery is preventing the targeted beneficiaries from enjoying the benefits of varied Government schemes.

The Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana was started by the State government for the benefit of inter-pass girls from economically weaker families but the beneficiaries are not getting the benefit of this scheme.  They complain that the girls are not being guided properly by officials of the Social Welfare department and Education department due to which many of the targeted beneficiaries are not receiving the benefit of this Government scheme.

This scheme is operational in the state to encourage girl students to complete their higher education. Beneficiaries are given fixed deposit under the scheme. The Government schools are supposed to forward applications of targeted beneficiaries to the higher authorities but locals complain that the school officials tell the guardians of the girls to complete this procedure themselves.

Such a scenario is being experienced by parents of girls studying in the government school at Pandukeshwar. Some parents of the girls studying here said that when they go to the Social Welfare department office to submit the application form, the officials are mostly found absent from their office. When the district social welfare officer is approached with the applications, the parents are told to submit the forms through the assistant social welfare officer.

When the block education officer is asked about the school management not submitting the applications to the department, the BEO appears to be blaming the guardians of the girls for the problem. Those facing this problem allege that such government schemes are functioning well on paper and not on the ground where only a limited number of persons are deriving the benefit of schemes like the Gaura Devi Kanya Dhan Yojana.
