Thousands of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed youths are eagerly awaiting for model code of conduct due to the general elections so that the process of their recruitment gets restarted after.
The State Government on the orders of State Election Commission had stopped the process of recruitment for 1994 posts of primary teachers in the State. It is to be noted that this would be the last recruitment of B.Ed, TET qualified youths in the primary teacher cadre of Uttarakhand.
The National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has made it clear that only Diploma in Elementary Education (D. El. Ed) qualified youths should be considered for appointments in the posts of Primary teachers.
There are about twenty three thousand B.Ed./TET qualified unemployed youths in Uttarakhand and sensing that this would be their last chance to get the job of primary teachers they are keeping their fingers crossed these days.
These youths carried out a long agitation demanding that the process of appointments in the vacant posts of the primary teachers in the schools of the State should be completed as soon as possible so that they are not debarred from becoming Primary teachers as per the new guidelines of NCTE.
Bowing to their demands the State Government gave its nod for appointments of primary teachers just before the enforcement of model code
of conduct for the general elections.
The Government released two recruitment advertisements inviting applications against 980 and 918 posts.
The Government later added 96 more posts of backlog category taking total vacancies to 1994.
About twenty three thousand applications were received by education directorate which would do the recruitment on the basis of State wise merit list.
The order of State Election Commission to stop the recruitment process stalled the recruitment process now
B.Ed./TET youths are hoping that the government should complete the recruitment process before May 26 as the model code of conduct would again be enforced in the State, this time due to Panchayat Elections.
The general secretary of B.Ed./TET qualified unemployed federation Amit Kashyap told The Pioneer that the Government has assured them that the recruitment process would restart on May 17.
He said that the federation would start an indefinite sit in at the education directorate to put pressure on the Government so that the appointment against these posts is done before May 26.
Kashyap said that the federation would also demand to add 389 posts which the Chief Minister publically promised in the current recruitment process.
He blamed the Finance Secretary for sitting over the clearance of these 389 posts. When contacted the Additional Director Primary Education Mohan Singh Negi said that the department would start the process once it receives clearance from the State Government.
