BEd-TET qualified youths stare at uncertain future

The fate of thousands of Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Teacher's Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed youths hangs in balance after the Uttarakhand High Court issued stay on the recruitment process of 1994 primary teachers in State. These youths were hoping that they would get the job soon after the model code of conduct due to the General elections ends on May 16.

The orders of the court has now put a spanner in the plans of the State Government which initiated the recruitment process after the BEd/TET qualified unemployed youths fought a protracted battle for starting the recruitment process for thousands of vacant posts in Government schools. The court issued stay orders on the issue of reservations for the Statehood activists and sportsmen and asked the State Government to reply within three weeks and clarify the issue. The recruitment process is now slated for delay as more than 29 petitions are filed in the court against anomalies in the recruitment process.

The education department has set 75 marks as minimum qualifying marks for passing the TET for OBC candidates while for General candidates the minimum marks needed to qualify are 90. Some candidate belonging to the Chinyalisaur, Dunda and Bhatwadi blocks of Uttarkashi district have approached the court to give them the benefit of OBC in the ongoing recruitment process. Incidentally these blocks were declared backward areas by the state government after the examination for TET was conducted so these youths were treated as general candidates. Apart from them, some petitions also demand that the provision for backlog vacancies should be made in the recruitment process.

On Monday, a delegation of the BEd/TET qualified unemployed federation met the Education Director Primary DS Kunwar and asked him to expedite the process of filing the government's reply in the court. The state secretary of the Federation Amit Kashyap told The Pioneer that the State Government should remove all the legal hurdles in the path of recruitment process as soon as possible so that job prospects of thousands of youths is not marred.

He said that the hurdles should be removed so that process is initiated soon after the model code of conduct ends on May 16. Kashyap said that model code of conduct would again enforce in the State on May 26 due to the Panchayat election and the Government should complete the process before this date.
