The members of Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed federation tried to gherao the Secretariat here on Friday. The members of Federation which took out a protest march from the Gandhi Park were forcibly stopped by the policemen when they tried to cross the barricading outside the State Secretariat.
The agitating members of the Federation were invited by the Chief Secretary in the evening for discussions. The General Secretary of the Federation Amit Kashyap told The Pioneer that the Government should remove the minor objections which the high court raised on the recruitment process of 1994 posts of primary teachers.
He blamed that the Finance secretary for sitting on the proposal to include 389 more posts in the current recruitment drive. Kashyap added that the education department should also add 1,800 more posts of primary teachers which the state cabinet approved in its meeting of March 5 in the current recruitment drive.
The State Government initiated the recruitment process in the 1994 seats of the Primary teachers in the month of March. The B.Ed. / TET qualified unemployed youths fought a long battle with the State Government for their recruitment as primary teachers. It is pertinent to mention here that the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) has categorically ruled that only Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) qualified candidates should be enrolled as the primary teachers. It means that this recruitment drive is the last chance for thousands of B.Ed and TET qualified youths to get job in the primary teacher cadre of the State Government.
