BEd-TET qualified unemployed youths call off agitation

On the assurance of State Chief Minister Harish Rawat, the agitating federation of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) qualified unemployed youths suspended its agitation on Monday.

The federation was on the path of agitation since January 5 this year on its single point agenda of job in the primary teacher cadre of the State Government.  On Friday, a delegation of the Federation met the State Chief Minister, Harish Rawat, at AIIMS, New Delhi on the issue where he assured them to remove the hindrances in the recruitment process of primary teachers. The members of the federation were sitting on a Dharna outside the Education Directorate. Addressing members of the Federation on Monday Sushil Rathi, the representative of Chief Minister said that CM Rawat believes that Uttarakhand should be free from agitations and all sections of society should have a direct access to the Government.

He claimed that after the intervention of CM, the recruitment process of the teachers would restart. The president of B.Ed/ TET Federation, Baldev Singh Bhandari, said that the unemployed youths believe that the CM would fulfill his commitment.

The General Secretary of the Federation, Amit Kashyap, said that the agitation is being suspended on the assurance of the CM. He threatened that the federation would be forced to resume an aggressive agitation if the commitment given to them is not fulfilled. The agitation of the federation was prompted by the recent decision of the National Council of Teacher Education (NCTE) in which it clearly directed that the posts of the primary teachers should be filled only by the Diploma in Elementary Education (D.El.Ed) qualified candidates.

There are more than 25000 B.Ed./ TET qualified youths in the state and as per the new guideline of NCTE this would be their last chance to get the job of primary teacher. The long agitation of the Federation yielded result as the education department initiated recruitment process for 1891 posts of primary teachers.

The recruitment process however was stuck when Uttarakhand High Court quashed the recruitment advertisement of 1891 posts of primary teacher on the ground that the process of recruitment is not as per the guidelines laid down in the Uttarakhand Primary Teacher Service Rules 2012- amended 2013.
