State Director-General of Police (DGP) MA Ganapathy said on Saturday that the police officers should opt for professional policing to achieve the desired level of policing in their jurisdictional limits. “Their intentions behind any action would be given precedence over the results of their actions. If the intention is good I would do everything to protect them even if the results bring them flak,” he assured the cops after he presided over a crime meeting with police officers at Dehradun SSP office on Thursday evening.
“Stamping out crimes is my first priority. I would go to any length to wipe out crimes. This is an imperative to ensure good policing. Things on law and order front must look impressive,” he said.
He also enquired into the past records of police on the matter of arresting criminals.
DGP sounded disturbed over spiraling road accidents. He asked the police officers to be proactive and to stop accidents by coming down heavily on the violators of the traffic laws.
He also took stock of the cases of land forgeries. “This is a serious matter. All possible steps should be taken to stop such cases,” he said.
The State reeling under political volatility for the present, the new DGP asked police to deal appropriately with the political and other rallies and stirs.
“Police are free to take action against anyone who takes law in his own hands. Attempts to vitiate harmony and peace must be dealt with as firmly as possible. Don’t worry unduly over the results of your actions to maintain law and order. If your intentions are good it is sufficient,” Ganapathy said.
Garhwal Range IG Sanjay Kumar Gunjyal, SSP Dr Sadanand Date, SP City, SP Traffic, SP Rural, circle officers and police station in-charges attended the meeting.
