Be more aggressive in taking on criticism: BJP

Published on:

With the opposition, especially the Congress, launching scathing attack on the BJP Government in the State after  a number of debt-ridden farmers committed suicide, the State BJP brass has  asked the party leaders down the line to be more aggressive in taking on such criticism. A State BJP executive committee meeting was held in Dehradun on Saturday from where the leaders were exhorted to go all out to take the achievements of the Centre and the State Government to the people. State BJP president Ajay Bhatt said that the State executive committee has approved the political proposal, which was prepared by State Cabinet Minister Prakash Pant and supported by three former CMs- Bhagat Singh Koshyari, Dr Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and Vijay Bahuguna and the Union Minister of State Ajay Tamta and state cabinet minister Madan Kaushik. To make organisational work smoother, the party has created a new district Devprayag for party works, taking the number of such  organisational districts to 23 from the earlier 22.

Taking a swipe at the opposition, particularly, the Congress, Bhatt said that yet to accept their poll defeat, they are spreading canards against the BJP-helmed governments in the Centre and the State.  “Now, it is time for the  party leaders to go to the people to inform them of the   achievements their party-led governments have made along with countering such allegations politically. We must reach out to the people with the achievement the party-led Government in the State over the past three months. We must go on the offensive from now onwards,” Bhatt said.

He exhorted the party leaders to gear up for the challenges coming in the forms of civic body and Panchayat election and also the general election-2019. “We are proud that the Narendra Modi Government as well as the state government remain unstained by corruption charges. Mesmerised by this feat, the world leaders are showering praise on the PM,” he said.

“As far as the state government’s achievements are concerned our Government has made three/ four universities. Besides, Uttarakhand Transport Corporation (UTC), which was running in losses, has made business  worth Rs 35 crore in the last three months. Even in the power sector, we have managed to stop pilferage which was happening through illegal connections in the past. In a nut shell, functioning of every department has   improved and things would keep improving in time to come,” he said.

He also dwelt on the improving situation regarding  drinking water supply and medical facilities.  “Around 200-250 ex-servicemen doctors have agreed to serve the state and after their appointment the quality of health service will further improve,” he said.

Referring to the double- engine Government, Bhatt said that 889 kilometer long all weather road worth Rs 12000 crore work is in progress. “In the first phase,  works worth Rs 1700 crore have been sanctioned and  works worth Rs 4000 crore are in the tendering stages. The Tanakpur-Tawaghat national highway  is being made all weather road with Rs 1557 crore being approved for this. Besides, 22 motor roads are to be made national highway and ring roads would come up  in Dehradun, Haridwar and Haldwani. Rs 120.92 crore  being approved for 327 kilometer char dham rail project,  final location survey is about to start. Tender procedure of Rishikesh-Karnprayag railway line’s first phase has been completed and the work has started,” the State BJP chief said.
