Office bearers of United Forum of Bank Unions and around 16,000 bank employees in Uttarakhand began their two-day work boycott and staged protest in support of their pending demands on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion State Head of All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC), Hariom Narang said, “The Government has adopted a biased attitude towards the bank employees and our demands are consistently being ignored by the Government”. Bank employees commenced their protest at SBI Bank branch located at Rajpur Road and thereafter took out a rally. They said that this year government is facilitating a 5 percent hike in their salary which was increased by 17.5 per cent last time. They said that this demand has been pending since 2012 but no measure has been adopted to resolve the issue.

Notably, this two day long strike of the bankers would hamper the revenue of the nation and the state as well affecting transactions amounting to about Rs 1,000 crore in Uttarakhand. Around 10 lakh bank employees all over nation are participating in the strike.
