Ban on use of name plates on pvt vehicles: Tarun Vijay hails HC verdict

The BJP leader and Rajya Sabha MP, Tarun Vijay has termed the judgment of Uttarakhand High Court historic in which it had banned use of name plates and hooters on the private vehicles.

The BJP leader had filed a Public Interest litigation (PIl) in which he had plead that name plates and designations on private vehicles highlights the arrogance of such people who want to show that they are special and privileged and is a direct violation of Rule 108, 119 (2) and 119 (3) of Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.

The Bench comprising Justice KM Joseph and Justice VK Bisht of Uttarakhand HC banned the practice and asked the Advocate General, Uttarakhand, to submit a report in this regard.

In its order the court stated that only specified “high dignitaries” by Central and State Government can use red beacon when they are “on duty” and not otherwise.

Talking to The Pioneer Vijay hailed the judgment and said that he never understood the logic of the name plates used by political and other socially active people on their vehicles showing that they are holding a very important position.

“What do they want to conveyIJ That they are above law or the people should bow before them when their vehicle passes by them or the police shall not register any case against them if they violated the traffic lawIJ” Vijay asked. The BJP leader said that honourable High Court has upheld the constitutional position of equality of all citizens before the law. He said that it is now up to the State Government to implement the order in its letter and spirit.
