Bharat Sadhu Samaj having demanded a ban on the political events at Har ki Paidi, citing its holy character, a few days after the former Chief Minister Harish Rawat staged a demonstration, has created a flutter in the political circles.
The letter to the State Government demanding the ban was written by Brahmswaroop Brahmchari, vice- president of Bharat Sadhu Samaj and a Congress leader who is supposed to be close to the state Congress chief Pritam Singh. Notably, he had unsuccessfully contested the Haridwar urban seat as a Congress candidate during the 2017 Assembly election.
However, Brahamsawroop said that the demand had nothing to do with politics. “ Har Ki Paidi is not an ordinary place. The Hindus from across the country throng it all the year round to have a dip in the Ganga. The political activities should be banned from this place to maintain its sanctity,” he said.
