Many complaints are being received about noise pollution being generated at wedding points during the night. Dehradun district magistrate BVRC Purushottam held a meeting with wedding point operators and clarified that DJs or loud music systems cannot be used after 10 pm as this is completely banned.

A day earlier, the DM met hotel association members regarding the ban on DJs during the night. The DM informed the wedding point operators that necessary action will be taken and a fine of Rs 10,000 will be imposed on the wedding point operator in case loud music is played there after 10 pm. He clarified that the operators are required to inform the district administration about programmes being held at the wedding points apart from which the groom’s and bride’s side will also have to inform the administration about the event.

Under no circumstances will loud music be allowed at such venues after 10 in the night, the DM stressed. He directed the superintendent of police (city) to take action against wedding points violating the ban and imposing penalty on the operators without delay. He also directed all the wedding point operators to mandatorily install CCTV cameras so that necessary information can be secured in case of untoward incident.

Purushottam directed the additional district magistrate (finance) to ensure that all the wedding point owners receive these orders in writing, while also appealing to the wedding point operators to cooperate with the administration to help implement the law and maintain order. The operators should also inform the bride’s and groom’s side about these decisions at the time of booking and display this information on stickers at the venue. The DM also directed them to designate a space for bursting fireworks in the wedding point.

It is worth mentioning here that wedding points have become a cause of major nuisance for those living in their vicinity. loud noise well into late night, traffic congestion caused by haphazard parking and garbage dumped in the open are commonly associated with most wedding points in Dehradun.
