In connection with the case related to producing fake certificates to procure passport, Acharya Balkrishna, close aide of Yog Guru Baba Ramdev, had appeared in the lower court of Dehradun on Thursday. The next hearing has been fixed on December 21.

Notably, Balkrishna had earlier filed an application seeking permission at Nainital High Court, stating that he would go to Nepal between November 22 and November 30 for business work. The court had permitted him with the direction that he would have to appear in the lower court after he returned from Nepal. Following the direction of High Court, he appeared in the court on Friday.

It should be mentioned here that regarding fake certificate and violation of the Indian Passport Act, the court had issued non-bailable warrant against Balkrishna on July 12, 2012. A team from the CBI had arrested Balkrishna from Haridwar the same day.

Regarding the same issue, Sanakrit College, Khurja principal Naresh Chandra had surrendered himself before the court on August 6 2012.

Naresh Chandra was charged with providing forged certificate to Balkrishna. Balkrishna had secured bail on August 17, 2012 from the High Court.

CBI had filed a case of cheating and criminal conspiracy against Balkrishna in July, 2012 for allegedly procuring fake degree and violation of section 12 of Indian Passport Act to be furnished to get passport. The CBI Court had earlier fixed charges on Balkrishna under sections 420, 120B, 468 and 471 of IPC. The decision to register the case against Balkrishna had been taken after Sampurna Nand Sanskrit University denied having him on its rolls. Registrar of the university Rajnish Shukla had told the CBI that Balkrishna's two degrees 'Purv Madhyma', a high school degree issued in 1991, and 'Shastri', a Sanskrit degree in 1996, did not figure in the varsity's records.
