The ripple of what happened in Rishikesh and Raiwala reached Kankhal in Haridwar on Friday after Bajrang Dal activists set aflame a few shops belonging to the minority community in the evening. Notably, communal tension had broken out after the   mutilated body of a person was found on railway tracks on Tuesday night.  Tension had started after  the Vidhan Sabha Speaker Prem Chandra Agarwal visited the site from where the body was recovered on Thursday. Unrest kept raging despite police having arrested two persons in connection with the murder.

Police said that some two –wheeler- borne persons with faces covered  attacked and set afire some  saloons run by the  minority community people at  Pahari bazaar and Chowk bazaar in Kankhal.

A senior police officer said that after 3 shops were vandalised heavy police contingents were deployed in the township. “A case has been registered against some unidentified miscreants. We are trying to arrest them. The situation is now under control," he added.
