Bajrang Dal protests at Kali Mandir Chowk

A day after a fracas broke out between the Haridwar Rural MlA Swami Yateeswaranand and his followers on one hand and the RSS’s student affiliate Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists on the other, resulting in the alleged manhandling of the legislator and filing of police complaints by both sides, activists of Bajrang Dal, another wing of the RSS constellation, have staged a demonstration against the MlA at Kali Mandir Chowk near Bahadrabad on Monday.

They said that they are with ABVP in the matter while slamming the MlA for including the name of a Bajrang Dal activist in the manhandling complaint he lodged with police. They further warned the MlA of facing a full- blown stir to be staged by both the wings of the RSS in case he refused to withdraw the ‘fabricated’ case.

The tiff had started following the defeat of ABVP in the students’ union election in Gurukul Kangri University. Angered over the defeat, the student leaders had abused the MlA Yateeshwaranand for spiting their prospects in the student union election of the university. Not satisfied with this, they had even marched to the MlA’s Vedmandir Ashram where the lawmaker had been allegedly manhandled. Both the sides had lodged complaints against one another at the Jwalapur police station on Sunday evening. The police station in-charge Amarjeet Singh said that cases being lodged by both the sides, a probe is going on.

It is learnt that the spat between the MlA and the ABVP activists had escalated into a clash with the lawmakers’ followers chipping in. Both the sides had hurled abuses on one other. While ABVP activists had alleged that the MlA had cast caste slur on them, the MlA had said that they had pounced upon him at his ashram at the instigation of a BJP leader. “They seemed   desperate to humiliate me. They were not open then to any kind of persuasion. They were clearly unleashed by a leader,” Swami Yateeswaranand said without naming who the leader hostile to him was.
