Badoni's birth anniversary to be celebrated as Folk Culture Day

The birth anniversary of the late Indramani Badoni, who is hailed as the Gandhi of Uttarakhand for his momentous struggle for the creation of the State, would be celebrated as Folk Culture Day by the State Government on December 24. An ITI dedicated to folk art and folk craft would be started in Akhori village, the birth place of the legend.

The Chief Minister, Harish Rawat, declared the plans while releasing a memorial book on Indramani Badoni on Saturday at Bizapur Guest House. He said that a committee would be constituted under the chairmanship of Cabinet Minister Pritam Singh Pawar which would select the books to be placed in the school libraries related to the   history and culture of Uttarakhand.

Paying glowing tributes to Indramani Badoni, the Chief Minister said his name is still something to conjure with the collective psyche of the State. The simplicity in living and struggle for a cause of the hills was what made him immortal, Rawat  said.  "He is dead but he is vibrantly living among us because of the sublime thought he embodies. His contribution to the cause of the State is so monumental that we can hardly express our gratitude to the legend in words," he said.
