Bad weather impedes start-off

Chief Minister Harish Rawat could not flag-off winter Char Dham Yatra due to inclement weather on Sunday.

In a bid to utilise his time, Rawat convened a review meeting at Haldwani and expressed displeasure over the functioning of Sushila Tiwari Medical College at Haldwani. He instructed the college principal Dr RC Purohit to improve functioning so that more and more people can avail its benefit. He stated that everybody must improve their public relations. He told the principal that people ask the CM for hospital beds instead of him thus indicating he is not connected to the public.

He gave directions to open a separate ward for women. Rawat has been consistently receiving complaints that the hospital has turned as a referral centre. This practice should be discontinued with immediate effect and patients must get good treatment.  later CM instructed the Secretary, health to appoint doctors at Haldwani and Sri Nagar Medical colleges on contractual basis and approved to open cath lab in PPP mode and start angiography as well.

Expressing displeasure with the electricity department, CM Rawat said that Uttarakhand which was known as power surplus State, is now taking electricity from other States on loan.  The slow and delayed work on several electricity projects is the reason for this. The department must appoint engineers on such sites and ensure that officers work on sites. He warned that electricity wires must not be seen hanging out of place at anywhere in the State.

The damaged electricity poles must also be repaired and special drives must be carried out for the same.  He said that in areas where electric wires are hanging above residential colonies, the respective MlAs must be met with and proposal to change this must be presented. He keeps getting complaints of consistent power cuts from all over the State, so he asked the electricity officer to display a notice of power cuts in advance.

He asked them to also give a proposal for underground electricity lines. While reviewing the silk department, the CM expressed surprise on the output of the department even though there are 45 workers in the department.  He stated that at least the salary of the workers must be justified. There is no dearth of Government fund and suggested inclusion of farmers in silk produce. Rawat gave directions to the Nainital DM Deepak Rawat to utilise the district planning budget by February next year.  The social welfare schemes for widows, specially challenged, old, farmers must be implemented and reviewed. He also gave orders to propagate Teelu Rautela Pension scheme.

Rawat also instructed to check quality of food, which are being given to the pregnant and schemes for children and women should be reviewed on regular basis. He has asked the DM to provide certificates to the applicants within 15 days.
