Babri demolition anniversary: Cops kept on toes in Haridwar

Published on:

No organisation would be allowed to carry out any programme or take out any rally in Haridwar district to mark the Babri mosque demolition anniversary on Sunday. Police and intelligence staff have been put on alert in Haridwar and other parts of the State to implement the order strictly. Additional forces have been deployed at various places to avoid any untoward incident on the day, said Haridwar SSP Senthil Akdai Krishna Raj S. The SP City and SP Rural have been directed to take appropriate steps to ensure peace in their jurisdictional limits, he added.

This year, police seem to be extra cautious in view of  a 12-year- old Tushar Dhiman having died in a bomb  blast that occurred under Gangnahar police station limit in Roorkee around 50 metres away from DAV (PG) College, Roorkee on December 6 last year. Significantly, Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) was holding a meeting to mark the anniversary of Babri mosque demolition (observed as Shaurya Diwas) near the place where the blast occurred. The boy while on his way back home from school along with two friends picked something up, taking it for a ball, near a petrol pump. It later exploded, killing him on the spot.

SSP said that security has been beefed up and bomb disposal squad and quick response team (QRT) have been deployed in the city while a small group of police personnel wearing helmets and body protectors have been positioned at various places in rural areas of the district. Several areas have been divided into zones and sectors. The circle officers and police station in-charges have been appointed zonal officers. Duty chart for police personnel has been drafted and police officers have been directed to implement it strictly.

Haridwar SP Rural Parminder Dobhal said that the police station officers have been directed to ensure that the checking drives are conducted at inter-state border areas, hotels, dharamshalas, bus stations, railway stations, and other crowded places. Instruction has been issued to the police officers to take necessary action against those who take law in their hands.

Officials operating at the police control rooms have been put on alert while being directed to inform the senior police officers in case any emergency call is received from any part of the district, he added.
