In an effort to put a good picture before the visiting team of the Medical Council of India (MCI), the authorities of the associated hospital of Doon Medical College (DMC) have decided to close the ayurveda and homeopathy wings of the hospital on Wednesday and Thursday. The MCI team is expected to visit the hospital and medical College on these days and as a medical college do not have Ayurveda and Homeopathy wings the authorities want to put things under the carpet as they are yet to find on a new place for these wings which were earlier part of Doon hospital (district hospital).
It is worth mentioning here that The Pioneer in its edition of March 16 has warned that MCI team could get irked and sent an adverse report if these wings are not shifted immediately from the hospital.
The Homeopathy and Ayurveda wings of the hospital are the legacy of erstwhile Doon hospital which was a district hospital, later to fulfill the condition of a 300 bed associated hospital for a medical college, the Doon hospital was merged into DMC.
However, due to lack of any decision on part of government these wings continued to work from the hospital. Now with MCI slated to visit the hospital for all important inspection based on which the letter of Permission (lOP) would be granted to the DMC, the hospital authorities in a face saving exercise ordered closure of Ayurveda and Homeopathy wings for two days.
“We are asking the patients not to visit us for next two days as the hospital administration has asked us to remain closed,’’ said one of an Ayurveda doctor. More than 200 patients visit the OPDs of these two wings daily.
The Medical Superintendent (MS) of the hospital, Dr K K Tamta accepted that the Ayurveda and homeopathy wings have been asked to close for two days in wake of MCI visit. He candidly agreed that a medical college hospital does not have any place for these wings and their presence could invite objection from the team of MCI.
It is learnt that the hospital administration had requested the state government to shift these wings out of the hospital but callous Babus did not spared a thought over the issue and these wings persisted in the hospital.
Meanwhile the associated hospital and the DMC are all geared up for the visit of team of MCI. It is worth mentioning here that MCI has made five visits in last three years for grant of lOP for the medical college and every time the team listed many objections. The authorities of the DMC however are confident that this time the MCI would approve the medical college as they have done all the necessary preparations.
