State Women Commission chairperson Sarojini Kanthyura stressed that awareness among the women is essential to stop domestic violence and on this matter, the role of the Anganwadi workers is great. She opined this while addressing the one- day seminar organized by the women empowerment and child welfare department in Pauri on Thursday.
She further said that the main aim of the commission is to stop domestic violence. “I am convinced that the withering of the age-old social/familial values is leading to domestic violence. The women should take adequate care of their wards and implant good sanskars in them,” she said. “Besides, the women being economically dependent on others is leaving them vulnerable to domestic violence. They must empower themselves through self employment,” she said. She stressed on such seminars being organised in every block while asking the officers concerned to take prompt cognizance of the domestic violence cases.
Former vice- chairman, State Animal Welfare Board, Sarita Negi said that the women are to blame along with men for domestic violence. “Making laws is not the remedy. The women should come forward to use these laws,” she said.
Superintendent of Police Rajeev Swarop said that women gram praharis have been appointed in many parts of the regular police area to stop the domestic violence.
