Award marks in positive frame of mind: UVSP

Facing criticism from various quarters for being stingy in awarding marks to the students, the Uttarakhand Vidhyalayi Shiksha Parishand (UVSP) has asked the teachers deployed in evaluation duty to be in positive frame of mind while awarding the marks to the students.

The UVSP called Uttarakhand board in popular parlance has told the evaluators to focus on positive things in the answer sheets and follow the step wise pattern of awarding marks. The Chairman of the UVSP, R K Kunwar took a meeting of the board officials on Wednesday at Ramnagar and fine tuned the process of evaluation of answer sheets.

The Uttarakhand board examination got started on March 17 and concluded on April 10.  The board is now gearing up to start the process of evaluation which is starting on April 17.

The Secretary of the UVSP, Manoj Simalti told The Pioneer that the answer sheets of the students would be evaluated in 30 centres located across the state. He said that more than 6000 teachers are deployed in the process of evaluation of answer sheets.

laying emphasis on quality in assessment of answer sheets, the board secretary said that entire process of the evaluation would be closely monitored and no laxity would be tolerated. He informed that the board is planning to release the results of class X and Class XII examinations in last week of May.

The step wise evaluation of answer sheets is considered best form of evaluation as the students get marks for various steps they took while attempting the question.

An analysis of results of different boards clearly shows that the students passing out from Uttarakhand board are behind others in terms of marks they secure. This means that the students of Uttarakhand board face difficulty in securing admission in colleges, Universities and academic courses.

A total of 153813 students were enrolled in class X examinations while 133417 students were listed for class XII examination this year. The UVSP officials informed that about 4000 students were absent in class X examination while 2000 students failed to appear in class XII examination this year.
