The Ayurveda experts are of the view that diseases associated with rainy season are caused by tendency of body to secrete more Pita during this period of time.

Ayurveda advocates a balance between three factors Vat, Pita and Cough for a healthy body.

The head of department of Ayurveda in Doon hospital, Dr O P Baukhandi informed The Pioneer that in rainy season the body secretes and accumulated more quantity of Pita due to which diseases like fever, dysentery and skin problems occur. The onset of monsoon causes an increase in incidences of the above mentioned diseases due to the imbalance of Vat and Pita.

He said that to prevent these diseases in rainy season one should take the diet which is less heavy on stomach. “One of a common food item associated with rain is ‘Pakoras’ which actually one should avoid,” Dr Baukhandi said. Apart from oily foods the Ayurveda experts suggest that frozen food items like ice creams should be avoided similarly the food having bitter, hot and astringent qualities should not be taken.

One should not immediately retire to bed after taking dinner as it causes indigestion, it is advisable to take a small walk in the evenings as well. To prevent the skin infections the ayurveda experts suggest a massage of Neem oil and sesame oil before hot water bath, at least once a week.
