In a decision that would sooth the nerves of the parents worried about depositing the fees of the wards in wake of cash shortage triggered by the demonetisation move, the district administration of Dehradun has asked the private schools to accept the fees by means of cheques and refrain from imposing late fees.

The Additional District Magistrate (ADM) finance of Dehradun, Harbir Singh convened a meeting of administrators and heads of many private schools of state capital on Saturday and impressed upon them to adopt measures so that the parents of the student don’t face any problem when it comes to fees. Singh said that the schools should accept cheques and waive off late fees from the parents till December 2016. The schools accepted the proposals.

The administrator of Brightlands School, Col BK Kapoor told The Pioneer that all the schools offered their full cooperation and assured every possible help. He said that his school has already taken a decision not to charge any late fees from the students.

The decision had a relaxing affect on the parents. “With long queues in front of banks and restriction imposed on withdrawal of money, I was really worried about depositing fees of my daughter who is a class VI student. It is good that the schools would accept cheques,’’ said Arti Balodi a resident of MDDA Kedarpuram.

It is worth mentioning here that the All Uttarakhand Parents Association (AUPA) had requested the district administration to issue directive to the private schools as problems are being faced by the parents in depositing the fees. Welcoming the decision of the administration the President of AUPA, Neeraj Singhal said that the administration should ensure that all the schools follow the directive.
