The Annual Status on Education Report (ASER) has castigated the education system of Uttarakhand on various counts in its report of 2014. In a shocking revelation attendance level of both teachers and students has dipped steeply in the government schools of the State. The reports suggest that in the attendance levels of students in the government school dropped to 80.2 percent in 2014 from 89.2 percent in the year 2010. The attendance level of teachers also registered a decline from a level of 90.9 Percent from 2010 to 81 Percent in the year 2014.
The report also paints a dismal picture of reading, writing and arithmetic skills in the students of both private and government schools of the state. The students of class V were asked to read a text of class II and it was found that only 52 Percent of children were able to do so while this percentage in the year 2010 was 63.7. In the arithmetic ability a staggering 69.7 Percent students of class V failed to solve a simple mathematical sum involving division.
On a positive note the report suggests that there is an improvement in the percentage of usable toilets in the government schools of the state. The ASER report infers data from a survey of 301 schools of the State.
