In connection with the brazen ICICI bank’s ATM machine loot case that occurred in SIDCUl, Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar with the criminals decamping with the machine that contained cash of around `7.5 lakh on June 24, the district police claimed to have recovered the ATM machine from a local river, Kalinagar, around three kilometres from the incident site. Claiming this, CO AC Joshi said the case would be cracked soon.
Notably, despite around two months have passed since the brazen ATM robbery took place in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar police are yet to step on any significant clue leading to the arrest of the criminals involved in it.
Joshi said that investigation has revealed that two criminals who have been arrested in Delhi and Rajasthan have disclosed that they were involved in ATM robbery case in SIDCUl. These criminals would soon be brought Udham Singh Nagar on transit bail, he added. He further said that several teams have been formed and they are working hard to arrest the remaining criminals.
It has been reported that around five unidentified persons had uprooted an ATM machine of ICICI bank in SIDCUl, Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar and decamped with the machine that contained cash of around Rs 7.5 lakh. Notably, the ATM was left unguarded when the robbery occurred with the security guard deputed to stand guard on it having left for personal reasons.
This incident had triggered insecurity among the people with the chinks in police’s security arrangements being exposed.
An observer said that police still stumbling in the dark about the case tells a sad story of the law-enforcers not rising to the occasion. “Security is not as tight as it should be. Besides, it confirms that there is no coordination between the police and the bank officials, something that leaves the banks and their ATMs vulnerable to loot,” said an observer.
