ATM in deplorable state as officials remain nonchalant

Despite The Pioneer having highlighted lapse of security at Central Bank of India’s ATM located on Dl Road on October 29, the bank officials and police have remained nonchalant. The door of the ATM chamber was found broken when this correspondent visited it on October 28. To further aggravate the matter, there was no security guard present there. Things have remained the same on Tuesday.

It is mysterious how the broken door has eluded the eyes of the bank officials, who deposit cash in the ATMs periodically. The same is true for police as the police personnel make several rounds of the area during patrolling.

But they seem to have overlooked the fact that the ATM with broken door is an invitation to the miscreants to loot it.

Dehradun SSP Dr Sadanand Shankar Rao Date had directed the police personnel of the area to have things repaired. But the order seems to have gone unnoticed.

When this correspondent reached the same ATM on Dl Road again on Tuesday, things were found in the same sorry state.

local residents sounded surprised over the bank officials looking the other way. “They come to fill the machines with money frequently. But the broken door remaining unnoticed is surprising. It seems they have left the aspect of security solely to police,” said one of them.

Quizzed, a Central Bank of India official, posted in a branch near DAV (PG) College, said that the bank officials inspect the ATMs from time to time to review security. “I am surprised over the fact that the door of the ATM remaining broken for days has not been noticed by them,” he said, adding that this was negligence of security on their part. He claimed that security guards have been deputed at each of the ATMs set up in the city.
