The NAAC is an autonomous body set up by the University Grants Commission (UGC) of India to assess and accredit institutions of higher education in the country. The NAAC with its headquarters at Bengaluru is mandated for periodic assessment of institutes of higher education so that an environment for teaching and research is created. The principal of the SGRR College VM Baurai said that building, faculty, qualifications and courses done by faculty, extent of digitisation and results are some of the factors assessed by the NAAC team. Baurai, under whom the SGRR college was able to achieve College having Potential for Excellence (CPE) status twice in the past claimed that at least eight colleges in Garhwal can get favourable NAAC certification with some effort and guidance. He informed that Government colleges of Doiwala and Uttarkashi have already applied for mandatory Self Study Report (SSR) after which the NAAC sends its team to the college for assessment.
