Assets transfer delay slows down DMC's construction

The delay in handing over of assets of Doon Hospital and Doon Women Hospital from medical health department to medical education department is causing procedural delays in the construction and other works of proposed Doon Medical College (DMC). These hospitals being district hospitals are under the Medical health and family welfare department but the State Government had decided that these two hospitals would be the part of Doon Medical College as Medical Council of India (MCI) norms mandate that a full- fledged associated hospital should be the part of the medical college.

The State Government is keen to complete the basic construction of the buildings and recruitment of the staff for the medical college before the visit of MCI team which in all probability would be held next month. The medical college would be under the Medical education department and it is regularly requesting that the process of transfer of assets of the two hospitals should be completed.

One of medical expert opined that it appears that health department is sitting over the process of handing over the assets to medical education department due to which the work on the new medical college is affected. When contacted the officiating Director of Doon Medical College, Dr Ashutosh Syana accepted that delay in transfer of the assets is affecting the work of the medical college. He, however, added that work is going on a war footing basis and the major focus is on completing the academic and administrative blocks so that admissions in I year of MBBS course could be given after the nod of MCI.

The Uttar Pradesh Nirman Nigam limited is entrusted with the task of constructing the building of the medical college. Dr Syana added that the Medical Education Minister is personally monitoring the progress. In a recent interaction with The Pioneer, the Minister of Medical Education, Harak Singh Rawat had said that the assets of the medical college would soon be transferred.
