Instead of making Gairsain the permanent State capital, successive State Governments had limited themselves to holding a Vidhan Sabha session in Gairsain. Alleging that the Assembly session in Gairsain is more akin to a “picnic”, the Communist Party of India (Marxist leninst) State committee member Indresh Maikhuri, Karnprayag municipal council chairman Subhash Gairola and others have appealed to concerned citizens to reach Gairsain on December 8 to raise important issues.
In a statement they said, “In a State, the Vidhan Sabha is for policy planning on pertinent issues.
However, a trend has been set in Uttarakhand where annual recreational visits are made to Gairsain in the name of Vidhan Sabha session.
The annual picnic of Ministers, MlAs and officials to Gairsain under the pretext of assembly session is set to start from December 7.
The only difference this time is that in the previous year, the Congress Government was the host while this year the BJP Government is the host. Since the statehood movement, the people have been wanting to make Gairsain the permanent state capital. However, those in power do not intend to address this issue. While the Government wants to tout the assembly session in Gairasin as its achievement, its cabinet Minister Prakash Pant has said that the Government has no proposal for making it the permanent capital.”
They further opined that concrete policy is needed to address burning questions facing the state but successive State Govts have pushed these issues behind a facade.
