Ascetics disappointed with extension for completing Ayodhya mediation

Members of the religious fraternity have expressed their disappointment with the announcement by the Supreme Court of India to grant more time to mediators till August 15 on Ram Mandir- Babri Masjid dispute. Yoga Guru Swami Ramdev has said that the delay in decision was akin to playing with the faith of crores of people. The language of slamming each other used by politicians in public speeches was also not good in the democratic system of elections, he said.

Presiding at the silver jubilee function of Swami Narayan Ashram here on Friday, Ramdev said that Ram signified ‘Maryada and Swabhiman’ (dignity and self respect) for the country. He was ancestor of all and delay in decision was disrespect to Lord Ram. There was no point in giving more time to the mediation panel, he said. When asked to express his views on West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee threatening to slap Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said that he strongly condemns the statements coming from some politicians against Modi. He said by using rash language, people were insulting the democratic fabric of the country. It is also an insult to the martyrs when people make such derogatory remarks, he added.

Swami Harichetanand of Bada Udaseen Akhada said that agendas of unemployment, poverty, inequality in economic and social status were all time agendas and they must be kept alive for the progress of the country but every issue must be raised within boundaries and discipline. He said prosperity was a must for the nation but not at the cost of destruction of culture. He said all ascetics of the Akhadas opposed the extension of hearing date on Ram Mandir issue till August.
