The Congress high command has issued special guidelines to the party leadership for ascertaining reasons for the party losing vote of the backward classes in the country. The Congress Scheduled Caste cell national secretary SP Singh said this while chairing a meeting of the party’s SC cell State office bearers here on Sunday.

Speaking at the meeting, Singh said the Congress had lost the Dalit vote due to various reasons. Various parties at the national and State levels are successfully taking advantage of this change.

“The Congress high command has issued special guidelines for us to ascertain the reasons for the party losing the Dalit vote. We will have to interact with the public visiting their homes to learn of their problems. The views of the scheduled caste workers of the Congress will have to be communicated to the high level in the party,” he said.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion the State Congress SC cell chief Jeetram thanked the State Government for naming the Doon University after Maharshi Valmiki. “We have also raised the issue of amendments required in official procedure for simplification of the issuance of caste and income certificates,” he said. Other speakers at the meeting raised issues related to reservation for the backward classes in engineering, IAS and PCS, special component plan, reserved posts lying vacant for years in various government departments, need for providing land to the landless, Rajiv Gandhi Awas Yojana and other government schemes.
