The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya digitally transferred a sum of Rs 3.69 crore to the beneficiaries' accounts under the Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana (MVY). The transfer was made directly to the children on Friday in the presence of the WECD secretary Hari Chand Semwal and other officials. Under the MVY scheme the State government provides a monthly amount of Rs 3,000 to children affected by serious illnesses or those who lost their parents during the Covid-19 pandemic, covering the age range from birth to 21 years.
Commenting on the MVY scheme, Arya said that the State government is fully committed to ensuring the welfare of children. She emphasised that all officers have been instructed to ensure that all children receive the benefits they are entitled to. Arya said that under the MVY scheme, WECD provides financial assistance amounting to Rs 3,000 per month to orphaned children until the age of 21. In addition to this, they will receive free education, food provisions, skill development opportunities and access to healthcare facilities. The government has also made provisions for orphaned children like special facilities and reserved positions in government services, she added.
She further stated that in June and July, a total of 23 beneficiaries were brought out of the purview of the scheme on reaching the age limit of 21 years.
