Durga Puja festivity is on, people from the Bengali community said they have taken special care this year of the environment by going for Eco- friendly idols which will be immersed on the final day of the Durga Puja, called Vijaya Dasami, on Thursday and latest by Friday .
A group of artisans from Kumartuli of Kolkata came to the city to make such Idols. They have used natural colours for painting the idols and eco- friendly materials for the same, said Pradeep Chakravorty, secretary of Puja Samiti of Bengali library, Dehradun, the oldest community puja in the city dating back to nearly hundred years.
“We always use biodegradable materials for making the Durga Puja idols. We use the “Pili Mitti” soil for the idols which gets easily dissolved in the water. We will be immersing the idols in Yamuna on October 23,” he added. “Many food stalls set up in the premises catering to the palates of different people visiting the puja are adding to the puja crowd. But all through, we are focused on maintaining the eco-friendly norms in everything we arrange on the occasion of the puja,” he stressed.
