Medical experts are expressing doubts over the dramatic story of Dharamvir Yadav, the army personnel who returned home after seven years. Yadav was untraceable after an accident in 2009. After returning home he claimed that he regained his lost memory after having an another accident somewhere near Haridwar recently. The soldier working in the 66 Armoured Regiment based in Dehradun met with an accident on Nov 27, 2009 near Connaught place on Chakrata road when the army vehicle he was travelling overturned. Yadav went missing from the spot after the passerbys’ pulled him out of the vehicle. The army following the normal procedure declared him dead after three years and started giving pension to his wife. The doctors here don’t believe the second accident theory which is being claimed to have helped Yadav regain his memory. Famous Neuro surgeon and Principal of Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Dr Pradeep Bharati Gupta told The Pioneer that such cases are termed as Post Traumatic Amnesia, the loss of memory caused by any accident. “In many cases the damaged brain cells recover due to which the lost memory is slowly regained. In this case it appears that Yadav had regained the memory over a period of time and reached home,’’ he explained. The doctor clearly ruled out second accident theory for regaining the lost memory. The Principal Consultant Neurology at Max super specialty hospital, Dr Deepak Goyal also supported the views of Dr Gupta. He informed that the memory loss is triggered either by Concussion (neuro chemical disorder) or damage to the temporal lobe of the brain. Dr Goyal elaborated that the recovery can occur in concussion but in damage to the temporal lobe the memory loss is not recoverable. Ruling out the second accident as cause of the regaining memory he suggested that psychological angle in the whole episode should also be looked into. Meanwhile its celebration time Bhikheda Village in Behror area of Alwar district as a person who was believed to be dead returned home hale and hearty. Talking with The Pioneer over phone, Kailash Yadav the father of Dharamvir said that whole family is elated and thanking the god for safe return of Dharamvir. He retreated that a minor second accident miraculously helped in regaining the memory of Dharamvir. The family has informed the return of the soldier who at present is dead on army records. On Thursday, Dharamvir was admitted in the Sawai Man Singh hospital, Jaipur for checkup.
